SPA GIRL SPEAKS OUT – The Great Massage Debate

Submitted by admin on Friday, 3 April 2009No Comment

spa-girl-haedline-picAs I sit here wishing I could find the time to take advantage of one of my pre-paid massages at Massage Envy, I am wondering if I made the right choice in joining the pre-paid massage club. You see, my husband and I paid a small membership fee which allows us to have once-a-month massages at a discounted rate with any additional massages during that month at an even more discounted rate. The problem is that currently I have three of these piled up and unused from previous months. With a busy two-year-old little boy and a part-time career I never seem to be able to find the time to go. So that begs the question…is it worth paying the extra money to have massages at my pricey gym spa and terminate my membership at Massage Envy? I love the idea behind Massage Envy and think that it’s a wonderful place where you can get a really nice massage, but at my gym spa I would have childcare and also a prayer that I would actually find the time to go! What drew us to Massage Envy was the hope that with pre-paid massages waiting for us we would surely find the time to go every month. I mean who wouldn’t, right? Wrong. Life always seems to get in the way.

I never know until right that minute if I’m going to be lucky enough to have one whole hour to devote to relaxation that day, so unfortunately, I call at the last minute and rarely do they have the time slot available that I need on such short notice. I’m not exactly sure why I thought there would be even a remote possibility that I would be able to take advantage of two massages in one month. All you busy moms out there can attest to the fact that that was a fantasy! I’m sure I would hear a collective “Amen” if I said that free childcare trumps all other benefits. Maybe I should take six massages a year over twelve if I don’t have to worry about finding a babysitter (aha….there’s a financial benefit!) or scheduling a massage after my husband gets home from work (I mean, dinner isn’t just going to just materialize while I am relaxing for an hour). And my gym may even be open to offering me a discount for scheduling and paying for a year’s worth of massages in advance. Now that would be the best of both worlds!

But there’s one thing that’s for sure, I definitely envy those ladies who have the time and take the time for themselves. You guys enjoy!
