CLASSY MOMMA JEN – Balance Of The Cheerios And Emails
Ever wonder how you are going to balance work and your family? I know lately this topic seems to come up more and more in my household. Both my husband I are total geeks (you did know geek is now chic, right?) For those of us who work from home it seems there is absolutely no separation between office and the living room. We are setting up conference calls while stuffing a few Cheerios down our Little Cute Faces mouths. At some point we have to realize we are parents first and find a few tips to help us get through our “work day.”
Here are a few great tips:
1. Set business hours. We often spend too much time spreading our work out during the day rather than focus for a specific time and closing the door/laptop. Set times that you think you usually receive the most online activity (emails and messages).
2. Say NO to a few projects. Instead of saying YES to all of the projects you don’t think you can give yourself 110% to, saying YES to the few projects that you can.
3. Auto Post your blog posts. Once the Little Cute Faces are fast asleep in their bed, take time and write a few posts rather than just one. You can have them post throughout the week and that way you don’t have to think of meeting deadlines.
4. Let them hear your kids. When on conference calls or radio interviews, know that it is OK if they hear your child in the background. If they are meeting with you, chances are they KNOW you have kids. It’s okay to let them be kids….not saying let them scream like crazy monkeys, though!
5. TAKE DAYS OFF. I know…. kind of unheard of, right? It is true, though. Take the day off and spend quality time with your family. You will LOVE it!
Follow these simple suggestions and see how it changes the stresses of family and work. The fact of the matter is there will never be true balance BUT we can try!
