A GIRLS GUIDE TO WHAT MATTERS MOST – Old Fashioned And Fashionable?

Every time I go to the mall, I’m quickly reminded of how hard it is to buy clothes that are:

1. flattering

2. stylish

3. not too revealing

Am I the only one that has this issue? Why is it so hard to find all three, especially the not too revealing part?

I’m not abnormally short, tall, skinny, or fat. I’m pretty average by most people’s standards (now don’t compare me to Top Model or I could be called Shamu the whale).

But back to number 3 of my dilemma. Modesty….? Is that an old fashioned word? Does that exist in your vocabulary? I’m not sure. But as I wonder the various department stores, I feel the pressure to cave in and buy the cute but barely there jean skirt from American Eagle or the plunging neck line of a summer dress.

You may wonder why on God’s green earth am I making such a big deal over this. “It’s summer, and it’s hot. If you got it, flaunt it?” However, I have found that modesty is empowering. It gives me confidence to know that I look good, feel good, and am not worried about showing everyone “what I got” in that short skirt!

So my question to all the girls out there….what does modesty mean to you? And is it hard to be fashionable but not too revealing?

First, I have to tell you that I am guilty of rocking the occassional lowcut sundress or top. But on my defense, at age 22 I have the chest of a 13 year-old and sometimes I just like a reminder that I am actually adn adult (lol).

But really, some clothing stores have gotten ridiculous with how short and almost see-through their clothes have gotten! Luckily, I have a vintage/hip-hop rocker style that keeps me in Audrey Hepburn/Dorothy Dandridge type dresses and graphic tees with jeans. My thighs are a little bulky for my waist, so I’d never even think about a mini skirt or shorts anyway.

So many girls give away too much of their “goods” by what they where. That might be a good thing to a certain type of guy…but is that really the type of guy we want to attract?

    Don’t think so!
