CONFESSIONS OF A HIGH MAINTENANCE CHICK – “i heart… blue + brown”
These daily make up looks remind me of ‘days of the week’ panties!
Sky Blue and Chocolate Brown clothing has been a wardrobe staple for years. While I’m not a fan of matchy-matchy clothes and make-up, a pop of blue on the eye lid with an all brown outfit is quite stunning!
How to: I used a flesh tone eye shadow base and packed on loose eye shadow pigment (MAC Pigment in Mutiny).
Then used a ‘believable’ brown shade (believable brown: a term I use often to describe a natural brown shade that coordinates with your skin tone) above the crease, lined eyes with a deep brown, mascara and voila!
Make it dramatic: Add deep chocolate or espresso accents to the crease and lash line.
Make it subtle: by avoiding shimmer blue shadows and stick with matte or satin finishes.
Pro Tip: When using loose eye shadow pigments, don’t cry over spilled eye shadow. You will get ‘fall out’. Just save your concealer as the last step to clean up any flakes left behind

I know many people think back to the blue eye shadow of the 80′s but I love to wear blue! I have very dark brown eyes and hair and just a little blue or navy makes a huge difference! Thanks for your tips – love reading your column!
Jenn,
I am so glad you are not afraid of blue!!! It’s time we put all color misconceptions aside… Cosmetic makers have drastically improved pigmentation, wear and finish of their make-up products since many of us began wearing make-up (exhibit A: see Monday’s post).
I like this look!!!

you have “wow”ed me again!! My favorite believable brown is Nars Bali. Keep up the good work!
