JESTINA’S MAKEUP BAG – Fragrance 101: How To Select And Apply A Fragrance
Have you been out and about when a person walked by and you got a whiff of their fragrance? Did you stop them to find out what they were wearing or did you turn your nose up and think how awful it was?!
In just one sniff, a fragrance can turn a person on or off. It can adjust the way others perceive you and also give off different impressions of who you are.
Here are my four basic tips on how to select a fragrance:
1. Make a list of fragrance notes:
These are the scents you really like that stir your senses.
For example Chocolate, Green Apples, Florals, Sandalwood, Vanilla, Mandarin Orange, Wild Berries, Lavender, Rosemary
2.Research the different brands:
Go to your favorite store and ask the fragrance consultant to show you 2-4 brands with the fragrance notes you like in them.
3. Collect samples:
Take individual sandwich bags and index cards with you to the store, put your top 2-4 brands on cotton balls or blotter cards in separate sandwich bags along with an index card with your notes about the scent on it.
4. Test fragrances out:
Try each fragrance on a different day of the week to see how it works with your body chemistry. Apply the fragrance to the back of your knees, behind your ears and on your wrist which are all natural hot spots that generate heat when you move. Also get feedback from your friends and family. The one that gets the most rave reviews and smells the best on is the winner!
Some of my favorite fragrances are Angel by Thierry Mugler, Coco Mademoiselle by CHANEL, Opium by Yves St. Laurent, Tresor and Hypnôse by Lancôme.
Stay Beautilicious!
