ERIN’S STYLE FILE – No White After Labor Day You Say?
Now that another Labor Day has come and gone, I want to know if us gals in the south still abide by that “no white after Labor Day” rule. I had this debate with two co-workers last week. Personally, I think we’ve evolved beyond that hard and fast rule. I doubt I’ll wear white shoes again until spring (that’s just a personal preference) but I’m definitely not opposed to white tops or even white jeans. I think white jeans look great in the fall and winter paired with a sweater or flannel top and tucked into boots. Just pay attention to shapes and fabrics. For instance, a sundress screams warm weather. The same goes for anything linen. But I’m a believer in making your own rules so do what makes you happy!

Hi Erin!
That ‘no white after Labor Day’ rule is so old fashioned. I had a similiar convo with a co-worker who is older than me that still followed the rule as she was getting one last wear out of her white outfits!
Where you have a ‘no white shoe’ rule, I have a nail polish rule. No “Cajun Shrimp” nail polish (on hands or toes) after Labor Day! To each her own!
Stay Pretty!
Sheryl,
You hit the nail on the head—that rule is old-fashioned! As far as the Cajun Shrimp, I’m not familiar with that particular shade of OPI but I’m picturing a very summer-y red/coral color. Is that right? Once September hits, I gravitate towards dark purples, cranberries, and maroons.
we never wore white after Labor Day when I was growing up! Isn’t that funny how things like that get stuck in your head as absolutes? Now I wear white Tshirts but never white pants. Come to think of it tho, I never wear white pants period! HAA! They show too many flaws!

I’m not a fan of white at all but this particular rules applies primarily in the northern regions and not necessarily the south, ie. Florida and Georgia. White will not be very attractive shoveling and trampeling through snow so it just doesn’t work up north. We have a pass in the south because of our warm weather.
