ERIN’S STYLE FILE – Tie One On
A good friend of mine (shout out to Amy M!) recently sent me an article about scarves. It basically said that in this economy, if you don’t have a lot of money to drop on a new wardrobe, buy a couple of inexpensive scarves instead. So true! My philosophy is that accessories can totally transform an ensemble, scarves included.
I have a couple that are suited for fall and winter (think pashmina) but back in the spring I purchased several of the lightweight, warm- weather scarves. Here in the south, we can wear these well into October or even November before switching to something designed for warmth. These lightweight pieces look great with a basic, solid colored tee or tank. You can find great scarves in pretty much any mall store these days as well as boutiques. One of my favorite places to find unique, inexpensive pieces is at street fairs. Most vendors will even haggle with you!
I also like taking the smaller, silk squares and tying them onto my handbags to add a little flair. Check with your mom, grandma or older relatives for vintage finds as these scarves were popular back in the day. This is how I came to acquire a vintage Pucci scarf that I love accessorizing with!

This is really good advice Erin! I have been inspired to go look for a couple this weekend and just pair them with some cute graphic tees are tank tops…thanx for the tips
Hey, Ashley! Thanks for the feedback. Did you find some great scarves? Let me know if you need any tips on how to wear them. I’ve found some great articles on the web that show various ways to tie them.
Hey Erin! Great advice! I have about 50 fake pashminas that were just $5 a pc! I love spicing up a plain black dress with a jewel toned pashmina scarf!
Thanks, MB! I have a couple of faux pashminas. I wear the heck out of them in the fall and winter. I need to get a couple of jewel tone ones myself–mine are all pastel!
