BFF (BEAUTY & FASHION FOREVER) – Assembling Your Fashion Team
I know. You’re wondering, what in the world am I talking about and why would anyone need a fashion team? Those are actually very good questions. Really, all you need are a few “friends” and as Wendy Williams would say, even if they’re just the friends in your head. In other words, these friends are the industry guru’s that you admire and draw inspiration from time and time again.
It may be Reco from “The Fashion Show,” Gwen Stefani, your best friend, Heidi Klum, or a recurring model from the pages of your favorite fashion magazine. Pick the top three people who inspire you the most and figure out why. Is it the way they pull an entire look together? Or how they accessorize? Are they always wearing the perfect mix of old school and trendy pieces? If you could inherit one of their fashion abilities, what would it be?
Assemble magazine clippings, photographs and articles that feature your team and really get clear on their vision. In what ways do (or don’t) they connect to your personal style? What pieces are missing from your wardrobe that they consider must-haves? Or, perhaps you have plenty of pieces but just need to re-work how to put it all together.
Now, picture your fashion team and survey your closet. Based on your gathered research, what type of advice do you think they would give you on what’s been working and what needs improvement? If you want to go the extra mile, tape pictures on your closet wall of several different looks that inspire you and recreate them with your own clothes. If you feel like a main piece is missing, this is your chance to be creative and make the look truly your own.
Think of your team as your personal style consultants. They’ve given you the tools, but it’s up to you to inject your own personal style. The more you to learn what works for you and what doesn’t, the more self-confidence you’ll have to take fashion “risks” and evolve into the fashionista you’ve always imagined yourself to be. If you don’t believe me, just ask your team!
