BFF (BEAUTY & FASHION FOREVER) – Don’t Hide Inside
Last Saturday was uneventful for me. I found myself lounging around my apartment letting the day pass me by. When I did venture out, I was dressed as if I was still walking around my apartment. The problem with this is, if you work in an industry where you don’t often get an opportunity to showcase the uniqueness of your wardrobe -whether, due to strict dress codes or because you’re fearful of being perceived the wrong way- the weekend is a critical time to be able to fully display your fashion prowess.
Too often I get caught up in thinking that something is too dressy or only works for a wedding or a dinner party, when, in fact, they’re perfect for everyday wear. I want to be that person who wears higher heeled shoes or a certain dress or a particular jumper, even though I’m only going to run errands. We make up our own rules, right? And when we limit our ability to wear certain things based on the occasion, our clothes sit in the closet (becoming vintage) waiting for that special moment or for someone to have a party.
The fact that it’s Saturday is reason enough to flaunt whatever you’ve been hiding in your closet! You don’t always need an “event” to wear that sundress you’ve always thought was a little bit too dressy. So what? Have fun with your clothes and don’t relegate when they should be worn according to what you think is the only appropriate time and place.
And, you know what? Every time I’ve worn something that I thought was a little too “dressy” or might make me a bit self-conscious, I’m always glad I did. It energizes me and gives me confidence to take more risks and create my own lane. Plus, I get more attention and people start to wonder, who am I?
Or, maybe that’s all in my head.
Either way, if you won’t leave your house or always want to keep it extra casual on the weekends, then you don’t give yourself the chance to break the “rules.” Create your own rulebook and then watch others follow suit!
