BFF (BEAUTY & FASHION FOREVER) – Strike A Pose
I often get asked if I model. As much as I appreciate the compliment, I’m aware of the fact that no one in the industry has ever stopped me. And if they did, I’m not even sure I could do the job. Besides the twenty pounds they’d be sure to make me lose (have you seen these models? they’re sticks!!), unless I’m smiling, I tend to look mean or unhappy and I’m not that photogenic.
Have you ever watched America’s Next Top Model and realized it takes more work than you think to be a model? Believe me, it does. Try it. Stand in front of the mirror and try looking fierce. Now capture it on camera.
Whether you’re born to be a model or not, what does it take to walk down the street and turn heads? Well, confidence, of course. But, where does it come from? I must admit, I have caught myself turning to watch a guy or girl walk past me with such breezy, attractive arrogance, that I’m left wondering how I can leave such an impression.
My solution: Fake it, til you make it!
Walk everywhere with an attitude of “togetherness” mixed with a little, “I don’t care what you think, I’m doing my own thing,” kind of walk. If you feel nervous, don’t show it. Smile. Don’t rely on your cell phone as a clutch. Don’t rush. Walk with ease. Don’t hide, scrunch, smirk, stumble or mumble.
The bottom line is to get comfortable in your own skin and own who you are. You’re the only “you” that you’ll ever have!
