Years ago we were visiting some friends for dinner. Everything was going well. We all got full and started to go into the living room so we could hang out and talk. In the living room, there was a cordless phone sitting on the end table and every time it rang this remote control car came racing in the room. I was just about to sit down when the dang thing came through and nearly took me off my feet.

This kept on happening throughout the night so I started looking for their kid behind the couch, down the hall, behind a door but he was nowhere to be seen. All this time I never said a word about it and neither did they.

Where the heck is that kid?

I finally gave up and asked where he was. They said he had been in the bed for over an hour, so I went and checked it out and sure enough he was sound asleep.

Hmmmm! Who’s trying to kill me with the remote control car? No one in the room was holding anything that looked even similar to a remote!

The phone rings again and here comes the four wheeled demon nearly taking me off my feet once more. Why isn’t this happening to anyone else?

Then I noticed my friend laughing and the gig was up. Apparently they were all in on it but me. Whenever the phone rings it crosses signals with the remote controlled car and the car just takes off. They had figured it out a few weeks back when the phone rang in the middle of the night and my friend thought the car was possessed.  He sprinkled it with holy water and was seconds from calling a priest before he figured it out!

My friend’s wife had been sitting there the whole time calling their house phone on her cell phone and hitting redial. I have to admit that it was a pretty good gag. But now every time a phone rings I skip to the side out of reflex. I’m just sayin’.
